MBT

Jadey's New MBT's

Well I finally got my hands (err feet) on (in) a pair of MBT's. I've had my eye on these for years because they make some great claims as to their benefits and I didn't know of a single person that had paid out for them that had regretted the decision.

I had 2 things holding me back from getting into them. One was my ankle surgery last year. These are amazing because they are unstable and that wasn't something I could mess with. And the other was the price tag. At $300 give or take the investment factor was a large one.

So I put them on my goals and rewards list and decided when I make it back to the 80's I'd buy myself a pair. So since I am now sitting at 83kg (and feeling fine mind you) the time had come.

MBT stands for Masai Benefit Technology. They are shoes that are clinically proven to:- Increase muscle activity
- Improve posture
- Decrease shock on hip and knee joints
- Help with some back, joint and foot pain

MBT is totally different to any other footwear:
* Its sole is curved, not flat.
* It is unstable, not stable.
* It activates your muscles instead of undermining them.
* It has a positive effect on the entire body, not just the feet.

(completely ripped from their website) They call it the anti shoe.

Let me tell you I am so, so happy with my purchase! In fact I am already planning more MBT's for my wardrobe to cover different situations.

I have been wearing them since Sunday and the benefits have been instantly noticed. First of all when you step into these shoes the first thing you notice is their softness. Honestly these are some seriously cushy shoes. The idea being that walking on hard flat surfaces is not what our bodies are designed to do. So MBT's create a soft and uneven surface for you to walk on.

The next thing you notice is that you need to learn balance. It honestly only takes a couple of seconds to do and then eventually you get used to it as being normal. Doing this triggers certain muscles in your body especially calves, thighs, glutes and lower back as you have to align your body to move correctly. It's not at all uncomfortable or anything like that which I honestly thought it would be. It's just different.
What this is also doing is helping me with rehab for my ankles. Just standing or walking in these shoes is helping the supportive muscles around my joints to kick in and do what they are supposed to.

And according to their website:~
"Step. Rolling action. Step. Rolling action. This simple movement creates tremendous benefit. Helping solve knee ; and back problems ; , relieving tension in the neck , easing joint pains ; – and helping to tone and shape the buttocks and thighs. The important thing is that every one of these claims stands up to scientific research - which is why the "anti-shoe" is now even prescribed by doctors and recommended by fitness experts."

WOOHOOO Hot Booty here we come.

The other thing I've noticed is that my almost constant lower back ache is gone. It's just not there. It's BRILLIANT! I noticed everything felt really good since Monday.

Oh and the extra height from the thicker sole is never going to be rejected by me =P

So get yourself some of this "footwear" they call the anti-shoe. You won't regret it.
I went into a store to get my sizes right and purchased on eBay for the best prices and paid under $100 for mine. Don't you just love them!

And in some happier news the last few months have seen me reach a few more goals J I’ve made a few changes to what each goal means in the way of rewards but there’s not far till the end!
I’ve always had my bracelet as my final reward, but experience has told me I am going to need to go on one hell of a shopping trip and finally I won’t be buying clothes just to get me through. Next Stop is Virgin Territory. I have never been under 82.2kg in my adult life.

In Remembrance

Knackers 1995 - 2010
To find the words for this is so hard. That’s probably why it has taken me so long to write this post. I’ve been pretty quiet. Even when it comes to twitter and facebook I’ve been quiet.

On Tuesday October 26th 2010 I lost one of my oldest friends. I lost a family member. I lost a piece of me. I lost my dog.

Knackers was never really meant to be my dog. Born a purebred wild dingo there are a couple of stories floating around about him burying through rubbish and falling into a drain down near Tootgarook on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula. He was taken in by the RSPCA along with his brother. At 6 months old Knackers was desexed and adopted by my ex boyfriend as an 18th birthday present from his Uncle. He was given the name Knackers as his stitches from desexing were being removed the day he came home.

Knackers first year was lived with my Ex and his cousin and a cute Bull Terrier who’s name I’ve long forgotten.
He spent plenty of time getting up to mischief as a pup.  He used to ride around with the ex in his panelvan quite frequently once on being left alone for a couple of minutes too long he ate the steering wheel and dashboard. After that he was tied up outside the car. We always thought that was safe as he couldn’t possibly destroy anything until we came back and he had eaten the grill and bumper bar. When these things are made of steel (Same model as the one below) it’s no small effort! But that was just like Knackers. He was a determined soul.

He stole a chook from the pen once and we were so mad at him. Held up the chook and told him not to touch those chickens again. He was obedient and never again did he go near “those chooks” again. Nope – not when the neighbours chooks tasted just as good.

Chicken was not the only thing Knackers got into that he shouldn’t have. The ex’s cousin was never a contender for citizen of the year but still it came as a surprise when Knackers was found curled against the wall moaning and groaning it was only later that we found out he had found a stash of marijuana and eaten it. Poor dog was out of it! Cousin wasn’t too happy about his missing stash either. It was just after this I convinced my Mum that the ex needed a new place to live and begged her to let him stay at our place until he found somewhere else to go. We were never allowed to have a dog of our own but Knackers came as part of the package.

Mum refused to call him Knackers as that was simply too rude so he ended up with 2 names. Snackers to Mum and Dad and Knackers to the rest of us. At first he wasn’t allowed inside. We had to create a long run for him and keep him on the chain at all times because dammit he could go anywhere he pleased! Problem was that didn’t contain him either. If Knackers wanted to go somewhere he would. And there was no catching him either. That bugger was fast. I’d seen him get off his chain – go through impossibly small holes (apparently dislocating and relocating his bones was simple) and standing beside a 6ft fence to literally leaping over it without a run up, without scaling or anything it was all done in once smooth pounce. Almost like a cat and with as much or more grace than one.

We used to sneak him inside all the time. At night I would open my window and encourage him to jump through so we could snuggle. Whenever Mum and Dad went out he would be found in  the living room watching TV with us. He was already toilet trained so the hard work had been done but his tri coloured hair (Red at one end, white blonde in the middle and black at the base) was always a dead giveaway, and that’s IF we didn’t get caught with him inside as it was. So eventually he was allowed inside but not on the carpet. Then gradually he was allowed on the carpet only in the family room and not in the bedrooms. It didn’t take long before he was inside permanently and not only sleeping in the bedrooms but he preferred Mum and Dad’s room and liked to sleep at their window which is in the front of the house. He would slide under the curtains for the best view between mums bed and the window. So Mum put his bed there and that was his spot. For almost 14 years Mum had to do a cross between a high jump and the splits to get over him and his bed and get into or out of her bed. But she never complained and every night he would wait patiently for his 3 dog chocs before going to bed. God forbid if we were to ever run out.

When my ex and I parted ways in 1999 a custody battle ensued. It was his choice and we had split up on numerous occasions, each time because he was scared of commitment and getting too close. And every time we had gotten back together. I always kept Knackers. He was my constant. His fur was great for mopping up my tears and he was brilliant at cuddles and just spending time with. The last time we split the ex tried super hard to take him. I made it clear that there was no chance in hell. He was renting, no dogs were allowed. His housemate had a cat and Knackers wanted to eat it. And on top of all that he had no fences. I won.

Later that year Mum and Dad had gone on an around Australia holiday and our freezer broke down while they were away so trying to use as much as I could I organised a big roast dinner for a whole pile of our friends. After cooking the roast and serving it up we all ended up in front of the TV and when I turned around Knackers had silently and easily jumped straight up onto the bench. All fours standing over the roast and helping himself to dinner. I was mad for a split second and then we were all in laughter. It was an $80 piece of meat. Probably the feed of his life being that there was more than half left.

When I moved to Sydney and moved in with MR TDP and his Mum (They own the house together and I originally moved in as a friend nothing romantic whatsoever) it was decided that Knackers was best left in Melbourne. He was happy at the window in my parents room and I wasn’t allowed dogs inside. (A rule I still disagree with to this day). Also it was thought Knackers was getting old. Little did we know he hadn’t lived even half his life yet. It was a tough decision but the right one for him and Mum and Dad loved him as their own.

I always visited though and was always met at the door by my ball of fluff and a wagging tail.

Not long after Storm came along I spent a few weeks back in Melbourne and Storm flew down with me. Knackers had tolerance for the “puppy” disturbing his life and used to guide her around teaching her lessons where required. He taught her so much and guided her through part of her puppy life.

When we returned to Melbourne due to some family trauma awhile later again he accepted the new dog in his life. Although begrudgingly, He was always the head of the household.

Storm picked up a few weird habits from Knackers. One being that she would run the fence in the backyard when someone walked by, however she doesn’t bark. You see dingoes can’t bark. So while knackers was always interested in what was going by it was more of a silent vigil than a loud protest.

While he couldn’t bark he sure could howl. We used to find that if we had left our phones in the same room as him and walked away he would let us know it was ringing by striking up a howl and singing along until the noise stopped.

He slowed down as he aged, stopped running away whenever the door was open and started enjoying his peace more and more. Thunder and Lightening didn’t bother him in the last couple of years and we guessed that was because he couldn’t hear it anymore. He was a bit stiff and occasionally had tremors that made his legs not work so well but he was happy and moved around fine providing one of the puppies (Storm now 9 and Trigger 2) hadn’t “played” and knocked him around.

The Monday night Mum told me she was worried about him. He hadn’t eaten in a few days and wasn’t moving around too well. She was going to take him to the vets in the morning. I was so scared, so so scared.

Then it gets kind of messy because I wasn’t there and Mum and Dad are a mess too. So ultimately they were told his Kidneys were failing and his time had come. Mum and Dad held and patted him as he passed over to the rainbow bridge.

Knackers – I love you forever
Never to be forgotten
